Everybody talks about living the way they want to, they all claim that one day they will pursue it, but that day never arrives, or it comes too late. People want things, and they sometimes practice to achieve whatever it is, but then they always come up with an excuse for not doing it. Without application, it is all pointless. One can be absorbed in that mode of thought for the rest of their life, having never acted, but always in the back of their mind thinking that they will do it one day. The thought is comforting initially, but one day you will realise that there is little time left.
People say that they will only start living when they have achieved a certain goal, but that goal might take a very long time to accomplish. Even if one does finally achieve that goal, there is no reason to say that they won’t just set another higher goal. They are used to being in the future and they aren’t fully living in the present. Goals are imperative, but they shouldn’t prevent you from living fully. If one does so, then they will never act. One cannot wait until their promotion, a situation settles, or any other scenario. They should act now and start living.
We all want to be achieving our best in life, we cannot pursue a path of endless mental preparation for an outcome which never happens. We all want to live a life full of meaning while pursuing something we enjoy, yet somehow we always find a way to prolong it.
One needs to take their first step. The hardest part is starting. One shouldn’t be worried about failing. Failure is good. With failure, we learn and perfect whatever it is we are doing. Silicon Valley is the richest place in the world precisely because most of the startups fails, we need to take a similar approach and see that failure can be a vital lesson for growth. It is how we deal with failure that separates the successful from the mediocre.
The voice in the back of your head that comes up with excuses will give you every possible reason not to pursue it. It has conformed into societies’ idea of fearing failure, one must not listen to it in this case. One needs to trust themselves, and be prepared to encounter obstacles along the way. You cannot give in to complacency, it is not worth giving up the benefits of living fully.
Start living your life. Stop giving in to mediocrity and start pursuing what you truly want. Once you act, the only regret you will have is that you should have done it sooner.
Getting ready for living, and doing it, are two completely different things. Which one are you going to choose?
