People think that they are just one tiny person on this huge planet made up of over 7 billion people, and that one person’s actions don’t make a difference in the grand scheme of things. They assume that their life is almost meaningless, that they are just a grain of sand in the beach. Many people then form a nihilistic attitude because of this. They argue it doesn’t matter how we live our life. This is untrue, although you are one person among many, people underestimate their impact on the rest of society.
One don’t realise how interconnected everyone is, people constantly interact with one another daily throughout their lifetime. One might not think that this makes a difference to their life or the rest of society, but it certainly does. People influence each other all the time, and people underestimate the impact of our influence, whether this is in a negative or a positive manner.
The impacts of social media make this even more true, people have a huge number of friends and one can post something for all of them to see in just a few seconds. People interact with tens of thousands of people over their lifetime. If we assume that one knows one thousand people over their life time, then they are only one person away from a million people, and two people away from one billion other people. The truth is, your life impacts the world around you much more than you think it does.
This means that one should spend time making sure that they are the best version of themselves, because their existence impacts many other people and it is much more important than they think it is. A good existence will be positive for society; people will pick up on what you do. The same can be said about a negative, unsuccessful person, those people also impact society and the last thing we want is for society to be more full with more of those pathological people.
People impact things in ways we cannot understand, its complexity means that people cannot comprehend its significance. People will get more meaning out of life when they do good things, and they also get more meaning when they understand the true nature of their impact on the world around them. Most people want to leave the world a better place than they found it, one can start with the small things by simply being a better person.
Your life has more meaning than you think, it does indeed matter what you do, one needs to realise this before they can start believing it.
